“I was the editor on a band 1 TV drama mini-series and was looking for an assistant editor. Kiran came to me with assistant editor experience only in short form at the time but he showed a strong interest and was very motivated. So I put his name forward to production and guaranteed that I’d cover for any inexperience he might have had. They were happy with that and hire him straightaway but they wanted to demote him to a trainee and therefore pay him a trainee rate, due to his inexperience in TV.

I explained to them that I needed him to take full responsibilities of an assistant editor and therefore deserved an assistant editor credit and BECTU minimum rate and I forward the rate card to production. After couple of emails back and forth they eventually agreed to our terms. In the end Kiran proved himself to be hard working and capable assistant editor, an invaluable part of the team.”
